How SkinPen works
Acne scars
Acne may have settled, but the changes it leaves behind can continue to affect the texture and appearance of your skin. SkinPen microneedling is commonly chosen by clients seeking to improve the appearance of selected atrophic facial acne scars without laser resurfacing or injectable treatment.
SkinPen creates controlled microchannels that initiate the skin’s natural repair response. During the weeks following treatment, collagen remodelling can gradually soften uneven texture and make appropriate scars appear smoother and less noticeable.
SkinPen Precision is FDA-cleared to improve the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and over across all Fitzpatrick skin types. However, not every type of acne scar responds in the same way.
Rolling scars and selected shallow boxcar scars may respond well to a personalised SkinPen course. Deep boxcar or ice-pick scars may require a different or combined approach. We will assess your scarring honestly and explain whether SkinPen is likely to be suitable before recommending treatment.
SkinPen should not be performed over active, inflamed or infected acne. Controlling inflammation must come before scar treatment.
Pores & texture
Clients commonly consider microneedling in Finchley for:
Mature skin
Collagen production naturally declines with age. Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can also contribute to dryness, reduced firmness, fine lines and changes in skin texture. SkinPen provides a gradual collagen-induction treatment for clients who want to improve skin quality without adding artificial volume.
For clients in their 40s, 50s and 60s, SkinPen can form part of a broader mature-skin programme — combined, where appropriate, with treatments targeting different depths and concerns.
Comparison
Combines fractional contact with radiofrequency energy, producing controlled thermal stimulation at targeted depths. May be considered for more established textural changes, laxity or deeper remodelling.
The best choice depends on your scar type, skin tone, pigmentation history, desired downtime and budget. A consultation allows us to advise which approach is most appropriate — or whether a staged programme would be beneficial.
