HIFU brow lift vs Plasma eye lift — which is right for you?

Two treatments at Radiant Skin House address the eye and brow area, and they work in entirely different ways — making it important to understand which addresses your primary concern.

HIFU brow lift: HIFU delivers energy to the structural tissue above and around the brow at depths of 3mm and 4.5mm. This stimulates collagen in the ligaments and subcutaneous tissue that support the brow position, gradually lifting a dropped brow over 6–10 weeks. The result is a raised brow, opened eye area, and reduced hooding from brow descent. HIFU does not tighten the eyelid skin itself — it lifts the brow which reduces hooding caused by brow descent.

Plasma eye lift (hot plasma): Hot plasma directly contracts and resurfaces the excess eyelid skin, reducing the physical volume of skin on the eyelid. It addresses hooding caused by excess upper eyelid skin directly. There is a healing period of 5–7 days. Results are long-lasting and are often described as the closest non-surgical equivalent to a blepharoplasty.

For clients whose hooding is primarily from a dropped brow position, HIFU is the appropriate treatment. For clients with excess upper eyelid skin (even when the brow is in a normal position), hot Plasma is more appropriate. Many clients have both components — at your free consultation, we assess which is dominant and recommend the most effective approach or combination.

The science

How HIFU lifts the brow — the mechanism explained.

The brow is held in position by a network of retaining ligaments and the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) — the same structural tissue layer that a surgeon tightens during a facelift. Over time, these support structures weaken and stretch. Gravity does the rest. The brow descends from its youthful position, creating hooding over the upper eyelid, a heaviness to the upper face, and the tired or slightly angry expression that many clients describe. HIFU delivers focused ultrasound energy to the structural tissue above the brow and in the forehead at depths of 3mm and 4.5mm. The thermal coagulation points created at these depths trigger a collagen production response in the treated ligaments and subcutaneous tissue. Over the following 6–10 weeks, fresh collagen forms and the tissue gradually contracts and lifts. The brow returns towards its original position. The eye area opens. The upper face looks more alert and refreshed. Unlike botulinum toxin brow lifts (which relax specific muscles) or surgical brow lifts (which physically reposition tissue), HIFU brow lift works by stimulating your own structural tissue to regenerate and contract. The results are natural-looking, gradual, and typically last 12–18 months before a maintenance session is recommended.

Having become a client of Radiant Skin House for manicures a few months back I found myself discussing the beauty treatments they offer with Natalie…
As a mid 60’s lady who was concerned about jowls and ‘turkey’ neck I was trying to find what non surgical and non invasive options were available. I try to look after my skin using natural and organic products but, sadly, these cannot prevent all the effects of aging.
And so Natalie told me about the Lipoform treatment - it combines radio frequency and electro-stimulation - the idea being to tighten loose and saggy skin, drain blocked lymphatic areas, stimulate collagen and hopefully tone and sculpt the area.
Circumstances dictated that I could only book a course of 3 treatments - each one approximately an hour long, over a period of 4 weeks.
The treatment itself was mildly uncomfortable, the radio frequency aspect is absolutely fine, its just a mild tingling, but the heat aspect was a little worse - however it was resolved by Natalie changing areas a little more frequently.
My skin was a bit red afterwards but this settled down within a few hours.
In truth there was a noticeable change after just one treatment - not so much visible in the mirror so much as I could feel my skin was tighter. This continued through the following 2 sessions and now 3 weeks after the last treatment I can definitely feel and see the difference.
My skin is much tighter around my neck, my jowls are reduced and my face is less puffy. The ‘turkey’ neck is less pronounced and saggy, but will definitely benefit from further sessions which I am planning to do in a couple of months time.
For those unwilling, like me, to undergo surgery (or not financially able) I think that Lipoform is a great solution and would definitely recommend giving it a try.

How long does HIFU brow lift treatment take?

A HIFU brow and forehead treatment typically takes 30–45 minutes as a standalone procedure. When combined with a partial or full face treatment, it is included within the overall session time. There is typically minimal downtime — most clients leave with no visible signs of treatment, though temporary redness or mild tingling can occur.

When will I see results from HIFU brow lift?

Results from HIFU brow lift develop gradually over 6–10 weeks as the structural tissue above the brow responds to the collagen stimulation. Most clients notice a clearly lifted brow position and more open eye area at the 8–10 week mark. Some clients notice subtle improvement earlier as the initial collagen response begins.

Can HIFU treat excess eyelid skin?

HIFU does not directly treat excess eyelid skin. It works by lifting the brow, which reduces hooding caused by brow descent. If the primary cause of hooding is excess upper eyelid skin (even with the brow in a good position), Plasma treatment is more appropriate. Many clients have both components — brow descent and some excess skin — and at your consultation we assess which is dominant and recommend the most effective treatment or combination approach.

Can HIFU and Plasma be combined for the eye area?

Yes — for clients who have both a dropped brow and some excess upper eyelid skin, a sequential combination approach is very effective. HIFU is performed first to lift the brow; after full recovery (typically 4–6 weeks), Plasma is used to address any remaining excess eyelid skin directly. This combined approach produces a comprehensive result for the eye area without surgery.
