From around 40, several converging processes accelerate visible facial ageing. Collagen production declines by approximately 1% per year — meaning the dermis thins and loses its ability to hold moisture and bounce back. Elastin fibres lose their elasticity. The SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) — the structural foundation of the face — weakens, causing the tissue of the mid-face and cheeks to gradually descend. Volume loss in the facial fat pads creates hollowing and shifting of facial contours.

HIFU — High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound — delivers focused ultrasound energy to the SMAS layer at up to 4.5mm depth. This is the structural layer that gives the face its contour and support. When it weakens, the face descends: jowls form, the jawline softens, the neck loosens, the brow drops. HIFU targets this structural layer rather than just the surface expression of those changes — which is why clients often see a qualitatively different result compared with surface treatments. The treatment is particularly well-suited to clients in their 40s–60s with mild to moderate laxity. A single session produces a gradual lift over 2–3 months as new collagen forms in the treated tissue. Clients in their 40s often respond well where laxity is mild to moderate — collagen production is still active and the tissue tends to respond readily. Individual results vary and are discussed honestly at consultation.

50–59

Many clients in their 50s see meaningful structural improvement. Laxity at this stage is typically significant enough to make the treatment worthwhile, and skin can still respond well to collagen stimulation.

60–69

HIFU can still produce noticeable improvement in the 60s, though response may be more gradual. Combining with CACI Synergy and SkinPen often produces the most comprehensive results for this age group.

70+

Having become a client of Radiant Skin House for manicures a few months back I found myself discussing the beauty treatments they offer with Natalie…
As a mid 60’s lady who was concerned about jowls and ‘turkey’ neck I was trying to find what non surgical and non invasive options were available. I try to look after my skin using natural and organic products but, sadly, these cannot prevent all the effects of aging.
And so Natalie told me about the Lipoform treatment - it combines radio frequency and electro-stimulation - the idea being to tighten loose and saggy skin, drain blocked lymphatic areas, stimulate collagen and hopefully tone and sculpt the area.
Circumstances dictated that I could only book a course of 3 treatments - each one approximately an hour long, over a period of 4 weeks.
The treatment itself was mildly uncomfortable, the radio frequency aspect is absolutely fine, its just a mild tingling, but the heat aspect was a little worse - however it was resolved by Natalie changing areas a little more frequently.
My skin was a bit red afterwards but this settled down within a few hours.
In truth there was a noticeable change after just one treatment - not so much visible in the mirror so much as I could feel my skin was tighter. This continued through the following 2 sessions and now 3 weeks after the last treatment I can definitely feel and see the difference.
My skin is much tighter around my neck, my jowls are reduced and my face is less puffy. The ‘turkey’ neck is less pronounced and saggy, but will definitely benefit from further sessions which I am planning to do in a couple of months time.
For those unwilling, like me, to undergo surgery (or not financially able) I think that Lipoform is a great solution and would definitely recommend giving it a try.
